CORNWALL, Ontario – Kale Howarth scored two back-to-back goals for Team West, giving them a 4-3 victory over Team East at the 12th annual CJHL Prospects Game, which was hosted at Cornwall’s Ed Lumley Arena on Weds. Jan. 25.
With the first assist by Team West’s Cody Laskosky, Marcus Mitchell scored at 16:31 of the first, beating East starter Anand Oberoi.
Team East forward, Mel Melconian tied the knot with just over two minutes left in the period with an assist by Matthew Barnaby.
Laskosky sauced a pass to Desi Bugart, who finished the play by roofing a perfect shot behind Oberoi for Team West.
Both sides changed goaltenders midway through, with Nate McDonald for Team East, and Ty Taylor entering nets for West.
Team West kept the pressure on, with Kale Howarth scoring a third goal following a left point shot by Jarrod Gourley at 14:01.
Gaining some momentum, Josh Cammalleri added a second goal to the tally, with assists going to Phillip Lagunov and Matthieu Franche of Team East at 17:43.
Howarth scored another 2:47 into the third for the West, redirecting the puck past McDonald bringing the score to 4-2.
Team East found their stride halfway through the third with Cameron Wright finishing the play of Bobby Dow and Bryce Misley.
Team West held the edge in shots on goal of the night at 46-22 overall.
CJHL player of the game laurels went to Matthew Kellenberger of Team East and Team West’s Ian Mitchell.
Team West rose to victory in their seventh President’s Cup Prospects Game title in the 12-year history of the event.
The game drew approximately 1,700 spectators and over 150 NHL, NCAA, CIS and CHL scouts.
