TORONTO — Two Proline retail customers parlayed their soccer knowledge into impressive payouts last week
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., one customer turned a $10 bet into a $12,288 windfall on an eight-pick soccer parlay. The other won $3,625 on a $10 wager by correctly predicting the outcome in six soccer contests, including five ties.
The Toronto Maple Leafs won both of their games last week, including a come-from-behind 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night Fifty-seven per cent of bettors backed the Leafs to win while 89 per cent had the over of 6.5 goals.
However, Proline-Plus players expected a closer game as just nine per cent took the Leafs -1.5 goals.
The Toronto Raptors lost two-of-three games, including a 122-112 decision Friday night over a Los Angeles Lakers squad that was minus star LeBron James. As a result, the Raptors came into that contest as a 2.5-point favourite.
A whopping 87 per cent of Proline-Plus customers predicted the total over of 224.5 points. But just 46 per cent picked the Lakers to win while 45 per cent had Los Angeles +2.5 points.
And 39 per cent of bettors had Brad Gushue’s Team Canada rink winning the Brier. The squad came into the tournament as the favourite.
The top Proline events of the week were, in order: Edmonton Oilers versus Toronto Maple Leafs; Toronto Raptors versus Denver Nuggets; Toronto Raptors versus Los Angeles Clippers; Toronto Maple Leafs versus New Jersey Devils; and Toronto Raptors versus Los Angeles Lakers.
