Peel Regional Police charge second suspect in GTA airline ticket scam

TORONTO — Peel Regional Police say they have charged a second suspect in an airline ticket scam allegedly operating across the Greater Toronto Area.

Between June 2021 and December 2021, police allege the two suspects misrepresented themselves as working for travel agencies based out of the United Kingdom to gain access to a secure online booking portal for a major European airline.

They allege the two people fraudulently issued over 250 valid flight tickets which were sold to unsuspecting customers for more than $500,000.

Investigators say the majority of the customers who purchased the tickets were from the Calgary area and the flights were primarily to Africa.

They say a 32-year-old man from Vaughan, Ont., was arrested in late January and charged with a number of offences, including fraud over $5000.

On Friday, police say they charged a 44-year-old woman from Brampton, Ont., with a number of offences related to the alleged scam, including fraud over $5000.
