OHL Roundup: North Bay Battalion rout Wolves 7-1, clinch playoff spot

SUDBURY, Ont. — The North Bay Battalion clinched a playoff spot after routing the Sudbury Wolves 7-1 Friday in the OHL.

Kyle McDonald scored two goals and added an assist while Anthony Romani potted two of his own for the Battalion (32-17-6), who have won four in a row now.

David Goyette scored the lone goal for Sudbury (19-31-5).

The Battalion did most of their damage in the third period, scoring four goals in the final frame.

North Bay netminder Dom DiVincentiis made 23 saves in the win.

ERIE, Pa. — Daniel D’Amato scored and assisted on two other goals to help Erie (23-25-3) down Windsor (30-15-6). The victory was the Otters’ third in a row.

KINGSTON, Ont. — Shane Wright scored a hat trick as part of a five-point performance as Kingston (32-17-3) thumped Oshawa (24-24-5). The Generals have now dropped seven games straight.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Marc Costantini made 34 saves and Avery Hayes scored two goals as Hamilton (36-11-4) extended its win streak to 11 straight. Despite losing, Mississauga (32-17-6) still clinched a playoff spot.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Tai York and Beau Jelsma potted two goals each as Barrie (27-19-4) doubled up on Niagara (15-33-3). IceDogs goalie Joseph Costanzo made 31 saves in the loss.

PETES 2 67’s 1 (SO)

OTTAWA — Tye Austin made 40 saves and stopped two shots in the shootout to lead Peterborough (22-27-3) past Ottawa (23-25-7). Joe Carroll and Luca Pinelli were the lone goal scorers for the Petes and 67’s, respectively.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Pavel Mintyukov scored two goals and racked up five points as Saginaw (18-33-1) eventually out-duelled Owen Sound (25-23-6) in a wild, high-octane game that needed a shootout to determine things. Ethan Burroughs and Colby Barlow each scored two goals for the Attack in defeat.

SARNIA, Ont. — Danny Zhilkin scored and assisted as Guelph (26-18-7) cruised past Sarnia (22-24-4). Sarnia goaltender Anson Thornton stopped 29 shots in the losing effort.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Jackson Parsons stopped 38 shots in a losing effort as Kitchener (22-25-4) fell to Soo (30-17-7). Robert Calisti scored two goals in the Greyhounds victory.

FIREBIRDS 6 KNIGHTS 2

LONDON, Ont. — Luke Cavallin stopped 38 of the 40 shots as Flint (34-16-4) dumped London (32-17-2). Coulson Pitre and Tag Bertuzzi each scored two goals for the Firebirds in the win.
