TORONTO — The CFL appointed Scott Banda as its board chairman Wednesday.

Banda takes over from Dale Lastman, who assumed the role in 2019 but in February recommended the league find his replacement.

Banda becomes the 40th board chairman. He recently retired as CEO of Federated Co-Operatives Limited (FCL),

“It’s an honour to serve as chair and join the governors, the stewards of this great league,” Banda said in a statement. “I’ve long admired their commitment to Canadian football, the communities where CFL football is played, and the country, which cherishes both the CFL and the Grey Cup.”

Banda’s appointment was approved unanimously by the current board.

“We are thrilled to have him aboard,” said Greg Yuel, the selection committee chair and lead governor representing the Saskatchewan Roughriders. “The chair plays an important behind-the-scenes role, working with the board and the commissioner to advance the CFL’s agenda.

“I know Scott is worthy of this prestigious post and perfectly suited to this mission.”
