BROCKVILLE, Ontario – The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) and the Glengarry community is morning the passing of a former school board trustee.
Wendy MacPherson passed away at Hospice in Cornwall on Friday, Dec. 13, she was 50-years-old.
In 2014 MacPherson was elected as school board trustee for Ward 9 which includes North and South Glengarry and North and South Stormont. She chose not to seek re-election in 2018, a race which was instead won by incumbent Ward 9 trustee John Danaher.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, Wendy MacPherson,” said John McAllister, Chair of the UCDSB. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I extend my sincere condolences to her family and to the local residents of her home community of Alexandria. She had a feisty spirit fueled by her passion for local rural schools and a strong belief that publicly funded education must serve everyone’s child. Wendy made us all think, and laugh.”
All flags at schools in North and South Glengarry and North and South Stormont will be lowered to half mast until Thursday morning in her honour.
“Wendy worked passionately for the residents of Ward 9 and for the schools in this area. It would be an understatement to say that she will be missed by all of us who reside in the area,” said incumbent trustee John Danaher.
