TORONTO, Ontario – Krista Seguin, 28, was born and raised in Cornwall and is competing in the Invictus Games in Toronto.
On Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 Krista won gold in powerlifting for Team Canada at the Invictus Games in the Women’s Heavyweight division.
The Invictus Games was started in 2014 by Prince Harry of the British Royal Family. Himself a military veteran, Prince Harry started the Invictus Games to give wounded or sick military veterans a chance to compete in sport on a world stage.
Krista is a Lieutenant in the Canadian Navy and is currently posted to Esquimalt, BC. She attended La Citadelle high school in Cornwall, and the Royal Military College in Kingston.
On Monday, Sept. 25 she competed in the powerlifting competition at the Invictus Games and also will be competing in Sitting Volleyball on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Krista’s mother Carol is grateful that the Invictus Games gives athletes like her daughter the opportunity to compete.
“When her injury happened it wouldn’t have been possible for her to compete on this level,” she said. “Without these games she wouldn’t have that opportunity.”
The 2017 Invictus Games are taking place from Sept. 23 to Sept. 30 with athletes from 15 countries competing in 12 different events.
