CORNWALL, Ontairo – The Women’s Entrepreneur’s of Cornwall and Area were treated to a discussion on women in politics at their meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at the City Limits Bar & Grill.

Several local female politicians were invited to the event including Cornwall Councillors Bernadette Clement and Carilyne Hébert, South Stormont Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart and South Dundas Mayor Evonne Delegarde.

“We wanted to get together with women in politics for quite some time,” said Julia Lucio, one of the organizers of the event.

Some of the topics that would be touched on included how it is different for female politicians when compared to their male counterparts and how some of their guests got into politics.

“I think there are more women going for deputy mayor and mayor positions,” said Delegarde. “I think of people like Hazel McCallion.”

Hazel “Hurricane” McCallion was Mayor of Mississauga for many decades and one of the first female mayors in Canada.

The next Women’s Entrepreneur’s event will be on May 28 at City Limits about avoiding burnout.
