CORNWALL and SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada is warning of strong winds and thunderstorms across Cornwall and SD&G for Friday, Sept. 21, 2018.

“Strong southwesterly wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected to develop this afternoon and early this evening, with higher wind gusts likely in thunderstorms,” reads a Special Weather Statement on the Environment Canada website. “These strong winds are associated with a cold front that will track over the area late this afternoon and early this evening. Additionally, northwest winds gusting to 60 or 70 km/h are also expected this evening after the cold front passes. Winds will then diminish overnight.”

According to Environment Canada, conditions are also favourable this afternoon for thunderstorms with winds gusting as high as 100km/h.

Thunderstorms are not forecasted to begin before 5 p.m. this evening.
