UNITED COUNTIES, Ontario – At 10:46 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, Environment Canada issued a snow squall warning for the following areas:

Cornwall – Lancaster

Maxville – Alexandria

Morrisburg – Long Sault

Winchester – Newington

Environment Canada recommends that individuals in this area keep watch of weather updates and take caution in adverse weather conditions.

A snow squall has been defined as a sudden, moderate to heavy snow fall with blowing snow and strong surface winds. Other terms to refer to the weather phenomenon include whiteout and blizzard, but snow squalls are often localized in time, location and accumulations.

Last week, snow squalls were expected in parts of Western Ontario, from Huron County to London.
