ST. REGIS & AKWESASNE – The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in partnership with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and the Akwesasne Chamber of Commerce have helped organize the second Small Business Saturday in the region.
Taking place on Saturday, Nov. 25, shoppers can visit participating businesses and get a stamp card. If they fill their stamp card with unique stamps from at least 10 participating businesses, they can be entered to win a one-night stay at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, a dinner for two at the Maple Room Steakhouse and a Sweetgrass Spa certificate. Filled out tickets can be dropped off at the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Centre, 597 State Route 37 in Akwesasne.
“The goal is to support our local small businesses and to bring the community together as a part of the holiday season,” said Mary Lafrance, Program Support Officer with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Economic Development Department.
The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Economic Development Department worked with Nola Benedict, Project Development Officer for Department of Tehotiiennawakon with the MCA to bring Small Business Saturday to the Canadian side of Akwesasne.
There are two businesses on Cornwall Island, Akwesasne taking part in Small Business Saturday, Creative Sewing and Akwesasne Sports and both are located at the Peace Tree Trade Centre. Both of Akwesasne Sports’ locations are participating in Small Business Saturday this year.
“We see our region as one and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe asked us to partner and we are completely on board,” said Kylee Tarbell, Assistant Director of the Department of Tehotiiennawakon in the MCA. “We want to stimulate our economy and get our businesses known in local communities.”
In total, 11 businesses are participating. Find the full map here.
