CORNWALL, Ontario – Emergency Services were called to the scene of a fully involved fire on the corner of Alice St. and Montreal Rd. a little before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018.

Two buildings were quickly engulfed in flames with the building on the southeast corner of the Montreal Rd./ Alice St. intersection collapsing about a half hour after fire crews arrived on scene.

Police asked the public to avoid the area, but a large crowd quickly gathered around the whole of the intersection.

Within an hour of firefighters arriving at the blaze, Poirier Furniture which was situated next to the first building that collapsed had also caught fire with the flames quickly gutting the roof and upper floor.

The flames were so hot that the heat melted the siding off of the buildings on the other side of Alice St.

Emergency Services state they have received no reports of injuries.

At the time of writing, 10:07 p.m. Thursday, July 26, firefighters are still fighting the flames. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
