CORNWALL, Ontario – Santa arrived in Cornwall Saturday Nov. 19. There were events on all day, but it was evening parade, which cumulated with Santa arriving on his sleigh, that captured spirit of the season. For the young and old it is the parade in which they look forward to.
Drawn by the music and light show provided by Xtreme Soundzz DJ Service (owner Matt McGrath), people started arriving at Pommier Square shortly after 4pm to wait for Santa. McGrath kept everybody in a festive mood until just before the first of over 55 floats arrived near Second and Pitts Streets.
Most of the youngsters said they wanted to see Santa. Early arrivals Katelynn and MacKayla Flynt said they wanted to see the gymnasts and to see Santa. In a chorus they said, “We love the gymnasts!”
This year the theme of the parade was a Disney Christmas. Many of the parade participants followed the theme by included characters from Frozen’s Elsa Anna Kristoff and Olaf, Lego, and Star Wars to name a few.
After the parade the awards were announced at the Civic Complex. The judges
Kirsten Coleman, Kayla Gaudet, Jack Lebel, Tana Montgomery, Gail Montgomery and Stephanie Levac decided on this year’s winners.
