CORNWALL, Ontario – Canoeing, Kayaking, and spectating followed the Raisin River as racers for the annual timed competition made their way from St. Andrew’s to Williamstown on April 22, 2018.
“I think we really lucked out with postponing the race to this weekend! We got the perfect day,” exclaimed Lissa Deslandes, organizer of the race.
In comparison to last weekend’s snowstorm, the sunny weather was amazing.
Most people bring their own canoes and kayaks but some rentals were available.
The race is approximately 30 km long with a dame in Martintown that is either portaged or competitors can risk capsizing their canoe.
This year, the race had approximately 164 boats competing with kayaks and canoes.
Many volunteers came through to help the race run as smoothly as it did with firefighters and medical crews standing by.
“We still recommend to everybody to portage but those that really want to shoot the damn and that is what the spectators come to see,” said Lissa.
