CORNWALL, Ontario – The city wants to hear from you on plans to redevelop a small piece of local geography with a big audience.
Thousands of people pass by the courtyard at the Justice Building on Pitt Street every day. Plans are in the works, as part of the Centretown Streetscape initiative, to redevelop the courtyard into an area that hosts public events like art shows, while also maintaining the water feature and perhaps even create a community garden.
The area is currently laden with concrete and includes an aged fountain.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the upcoming Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting and provide comments on a proposal to redevelop the courtyard at 340 Pitt Street.
The city has commissioned EDA Collaborative Landscape Architectural Consultants to develop and present preliminary conceptual plans of the courtyard redevelopment for review and comment by local stakeholders and the general public.
The intent is to create a fully-accessible public space for gatherings and other planned events with unique design features.
The design will be consistent with the philosophy of the Centretown Streetscape Design Report which was endorsed by city council in 2012. The actual redevelopment project will be subject to council and budgetary approvals.
Preliminary conceptual plans for the courtyard redevelopment will be presented at the PAC meeting Jan. 18. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at city hall.
