CORNWALL, Ont. – Are you a fan of french fries swimming in gravy and smothered in cheese curds?
If you’re a Cornwallite, we already know the answer.
The Seaway Food Festival is proud to announce ‘La Poutine Week‘ will take place across the city from Tuesday (May 24) to Saturday (May 28).
In four short years, the five-day event has become one of the most successful poutine celebrations in the world.
“This is truly exciting for us to be able to bring such an appetizing and engaging event to our community,” said Sebastien Manigat, of Bastion Hospitality. “By far we will be the smallest municipality to partake in this festival, but what the success of Summer Beer Fest and Seaway Food Festival has shown us is: we have a very broad, unique, and supportive foodie culture. For example, this spring we had the most successful Restaurant Week ever with over 2,500 meals sold.”
The concept is pretty simple: local selected restaurants develop special poutine dishes and customers vote for their favourite one.
Discover a new taste or reconnect with an old favourite at Deke & Squeaks Bar and Grill, Winner’s Sports Bar, Truffles Burger Bar, Chef On A Bun, Sheep’s Head Bistro, Jet Set Pub, Bar Q, Rod’s Fry Shack, Schnitzels, and Eight Zero Zero Resto Lounge.
The complete list of participants will be announced in May.
Seaway Food Festival judges will also hand out awards for the ‘Best Poutine’ and the ‘Most Creative Poutine’.
Manigat, director at Seaway Food Festival, said coming up with a distinct, tasty, creative, and unique poutine is not a small feat, but it’s that kind of challenge that drives this event.
“The wheels in my head have been churning for days now,” said Ahmad Mansorifard, owner and chef at Truffles. “We’re having a lot of fun with this and we are certain Cornwall will have a lot of fun with it, too.”
