CORNWALL, Ont. – The Seaway Food Festival has announced the winners of the city’s inaugural La Poutine Week (May 24-28).
The concept was pretty simple: local selected restaurants developed special poutine dishes and customers voted for their favourite one.
Thirteen establishments battled in this friendly competition where three awards were up for grabs: People’s Choice Award, Jury Award, and Poutine Of The Year.
After over 1,000 votes cast and 1,500 poutines sold, the winners are:
People’s Choice Award: Chef In A Bun’s ‘The Great Canadian Poutine’
People’s Choice Award runner-up: Rod’s Fry Shack – ‘Fully Loaded Chicken Poutine’
Jury Award: Eight Zero Zero’s ‘Triple Crown’
Jury Award runner-up: Nautica Grill & Wine’s ‘Tagine Poutine’
Poutine Of The Year: Bar Q’s ‘The Q uintessence’
Honorable Mentions: Sheep’s Head Bistro’s ‘Sea-cilian’ and Truffles Burger Bar’s ‘Ragù Il Verro.’
“We are completely blown away on how quickly and positively this concept was embraced by the restaurants and the community,” said Sebastien Manigat, director of the Seaway Food Festival.
“Surely the competition aspect is what drove this event. We were fortunate to see some very creative and delicious poutines produced by every establishment. Although some were recognized officially, it goes without saying that the true winner was our local restaurant scene. The ultimate goal was to celebrate our “national dish” as a community, and we believe we accomplished that in spades.”
