CORNWALL, Ontario – The local Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) Flight 59 operating out of the Cornwall Flying Club at the Cornwall Regional Airport held their semi-annual COPA for Kids Day on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.
Flight 59 holds a COPA for Kids Day in the Spring and in the Fall to promote flying amongst a younger generation.
Kids aged eight to 17-years-old are taken for plane rides for free with COPA 59 members in their own planes.
“We are providing and demystifying flying for kids so we can promote aviation,” said Eric Lamontagne, Director of Communications for COPA 59. “A lot think this is only for heroes, but they can touch the plane and see how it flies.”
Lamontagne pointed out that there is a worldwide shortage of pilots right now, so a life in the sky can be something within reach.
Lamontagne himself started flying only a year and a half ago.
“For me it’s a hobby,” he said. “It’s being in the air and flying to remote places with friends and family. Also, it is a great community, the pilot community.”
