UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Cornwall and SD&G on Saturday, Feb. 10.

“Freezing rain expected beginning Sunday afternoon and ending Sunday evening,” the warning reads. “Another round of snow will develop Sunday morning. Snow will mix with ice pellets and accumulate 2 to 5 cm before changing to freezing rain Sunday afternoon. Freezing rain will persist for several hours before changing back to light snow Sunday evening. Snow will end Sunday night.”

The freezing rain warning is on top of a Special Weather Statement that has been issued for the region for Saturday.

“Snow has developed across portions of Eastern Ontario,” the statement reads. “The snow should become more widespread later this afternoon and persist into the evening. General snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are anticipated, with the highest amounts most likely close to the Lake Ontario shoreline as well as near the St. Lawrence River.”

This winter weather will be followed by a thawing period with temperatures forecasted to reach plus five on Thursday.
