WINDSOR, Ontario – The University of Windsor has announced that Ed Lumley would be stepping down as their Chancellor.

Lumley had served as Mayor of Cornwall from 1972-74 and Liberal MP for Stormont-Dundas from 1974-84. He has been Chancellor of the University of Windsor since 2006 and the arena at the Cornwall Civic Complex is named in his honour.

In his time as Chancellor, Lumley worked vigorously to raise money for their Centre of Engineering, which in 2013 was named the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering in his honour.

Lumley has conferred degrees on 55,000 or 40 percent of the University of Windsor’s alumni and has a bursary named after him.

“It has indeed been an honour to be the Chancellor of the University these past 12 years. Having been born and raised in the City of Windsor, it has provided me the opportunity to repay many people in my hometown and alma mater who helped me in my formative years,” said Lumley. “I was privileged to work with two presidents, seven chairs and members of the Board of Governors, and dedicated faculty and administration in our successful effort in improving the reputation and image of our University,” he added. “Our students are our most precious assets and I will be eternally grateful having participated in a small way in their development.”

In 2014 Lumley was invested into the Order of Canada.
