UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G – Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Cornwall and the surrounding area.
“Extreme wind chill values of minus 35 or below were reported in some areas this morning,” the warning on Environment Canada’s website reads. “Wind chills will moderate during daytime hours. However, tonight wind chill values are again expected to be minus 35 or below.”
Dress warmly as frostbite can form withing minutes in these conditions.
“Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia,” the Warning goes on to state.
The cold weather is being caused by a Polar Vortex and is delivering low temperatures across Central Canada.
It is likely to remain cold with highs close to minus 20 throughout the week.
