CORNWALL, Ontario – Trillium Gift of Life Network presented Cornwall Community Hospital with a hospital achievement award for its dedication to organ and tissue donation in Ontario.
Cornwall hospital was presented with the Provincial Conversion Rate Award for meeting or exceeding the target of a 58 per cent conversion rate set by Trillium Gift of Life Network. In 2016/17, 100 per cent of potential donors referred by Cornwall Hospital went on to give the gift of life. Organ donation is a complex process and the conversion rate reflects how well Trillium Gift of Life Network and Cornwall Hospital work together to save lives.
There are 27 hospitals receiving the Provincial Conversion Rate Award. “We are honoured and proud to receive such an award. It’s really a testament to our staff, working together within different departments of the hospital, along with Trillium Gift of Life Network. While we feel proud we also feel humbled at the same time thinking about the lives being impacted by organ donation,” exclaims President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeanette Despatie. “It speaks to our values of engagement and compassion,” she added.
“Ontario has made remarkable advances in organ and tissue donation, resulting in more lives saved than ever before – and this would not have been possible without the work of our hospital partners,” said Ronnie Gavsie, President and Chief Executive Officer, Trillium Gift of Life Network. “Together, our goal is to ensure that all families are provided with the information they need and the opportunity to make a lifesaving choice.”
There are more than 1,500 people in Ontario waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and every three days someone dies waiting.
