Cornwall chase suspect facing attempted murder charge in Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ontario – Kerby Franklin, 28, who was arrested after a high-speed chase in Cornwall on Sunday, Nov. 11 has been connected to an attempted murder shooting in Ottawa on Thursday, Nov. 8. 

Cornwall Seaway News reported that Franklin fled from CCPS on November 11 following an attempted traffic stop in the area of Pitt St. and Twelfth St. The motor vehicle came to a stop in the area of Twelfth St. and Ontario St. Franklin was arrested and charged with six counts, including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. After a follow up investigation made by Ottawa Police Service, Franklin was transported from Cornwall to Ottawa as he was identified and arrested in relation to a shooting that occurred on November 8 in the 200 block of Queen Mary St. in Ottawa.

Franklin has been charged with the following 10 counts, additional to the six he received in Cornwall on November 11:

–          Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

–          Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

–          Pointing a firearm

–          Possession of a weapon

–          Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

–          Carrying concealed weapon

–          Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

–          Using a firearm to commit an indictable offence

–          Attempt murder x 2

Steve Percy, 24-years-old of Ottawa, was also arrested in relation to the incident.

Central Criminal Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate, exploring the possibility that more individuals were involved.
