CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Seaway News wanted to check the attendance records for the current Cornwall City Council before the upcoming Municipal Election on Oct. 22. The last day to sign-up to run for Cornwall City Council is Friday, July 27.

The following attendance information is based only on statistics found on the City of Cornwall website, spanning 2015 to 2018. There are meetings that councillors attend above and beyond what is required, but the graphs and percentages in this article are in relation to required meetings. 

The current City Councillors and the Mayor are as follows: Leslie O’Shaughnessy (Mayor), Denis Carr, Bernadette Clement, Maurice Dupelle, Carilyne Hebert, Elaine MacDonald, Mark. A. MacDonald, Claude E. McIntosh, David Murphy, Andre Rivette and Justin Towndale.

Claude McIntosh had the highest rate of attendance over the past four years, attending 97.7 per cent of his required meetings, while Maurice Dupelle had the lowest rate of attendance at 69.3 per cent. The following is a list detailing the percentage of required meetings attended by councillors over the past four years:

In Sept. 2017, Cornwall Seaway News reported that Councillors received $22, 930 each in terms of salary, payroll deductions, a laptop and cellphone.

Councillors were members of 10 committees each and spent on average of 275 hours annually working on City business.
