Celebrating the Baseball Magic of ‘Big’ Doug Casselman

Let’s play ball! Or at least celebrate an icon player from our local community!  Thank you to Barry and Tim Casselman for this unique fundraiser for the new Dundas Manor – all in memory of their dad ‘Big’ Doug Casselman!

For a donation of $10 or more, you can have a limited-edition baseball card featuring local baseball celebrity ‘Big’ Doug Casselman – in addition to a tax receipt!

“Thank you to Barry for this wonderful idea,” notes Campaign Assistant Cindy Ault Peters. “These cards are truly priceless, and we know there are many ‘Big’ Doug Casselman baseball fans out there. What a unique gift this would make too!”

Check out Doug’s amazing accomplishments:

  • Known as a fastball ironman, ‘Big’ Doug was a durable and dominant pitcher, designated hitter and 3rd baseman.
  • In the 1960s, ‘Big’ Doug pitched in excess of 100 games in multiple seasons playing for four teams: Cornwall, Gatineau, Ottawa and the Williamsburg Pioneers.
  • He was a clutch hitter, hitting numerous game-winning home runs; his last at age of 56 for the Pidgeon Island Athletics in the Iroquois fastball tournament
  • ‘Big’ Doug was the winner of the 1967 Canadian Senior Men’s Batting Championship in Saskatoon.
  • ‘Big’ Doug is considered the Babe Ruth of fastball in eastern Ontario.
