Bitter cold temperatures, snowfall expected for region

CORNWALL & SDG, Ontario – Environment Canada issued a weather statement at 10:43 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 for the following areas:

Cornwall – Lancaster

Maxville – Alexandria

Morrisburg – Long Sault

Winchester – Newington

Snow and bitter cold temperatures are expected for the region on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan 20.

Environment Canada currently predicts that snowfall will range from 15 cm near Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, to 5 cm to 10 cm North of Hwy 401.

Bitterly cold temperatures and Northern winds will result in wind chill values between minus 25 and minus 35 Celsius. This is expected to continue into Monday morning.

Environment Canada is tracking a winter storm that will occur along the Great Lakes. Eastern Ontario will be on the Northern fringe of the front.

Residents are to be advised that surfaces such as highways, walkways, roads and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
