AKWESASNE – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Executive Director is in receipt of the unofficial statement of results as prepared by the Chief Electoral Officer Leona Benedict. The following is the unofficial statement of results of the 2018 Mohawk Council of Akwesasne General Election held on Saturday, June 30, 2018. All results will remain unofficial until the Chief Electoral Officer submits her report to the Executive Director within 48 hours.
For the position of Kawehno:ke District Chief, the four candidates who received the highest number of votes and who are declared the unofficial successful candidates are:
1. Vince Thompson with 219 votes
2. Carolyn Francis with 167 votes
3. Edward Roundpoint with 163 votes
4. Dennis Chaussi with 131 votes
For the position of Tsi Snaihne District Chief, the four candidates who received the highest number of votes and who are declared the unofficial successful candidates are:
1. Tobi Mitchell with 222 votes
2. Connie Lazore with 213 votes
3. April Adams-Phillips with 202 votes
4. Joe Lazore with 193 votes
For the position of Kana:takon District Chief, the four candidates who received the highest number of votes and who are declared the unofficial successful candidates are:
1. Darryl “Kermit” Lazore with 110 votes
2. Julie Phillips-Jacobs with 85 votes
3. Tim “Dooley” Thompson with 83 votes
4. Theresa Jacobs with 73 votes
For the position of Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Grand Chief, the candidate who received the highest number of votes and who is declared the unofficial highest ranking candidate is:
1. Abram Benedict with 748 votes
Any eligible voter wishing to appeal the results of the 2018 Mohawk Council of Akwesasne General Election must hand-deliver their appeal to the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Station at 73 Sweetgrass Lane, Kana:takon (St. Regis), Quebec. Appeals must clearly outline in a written statement the grounds for the appeal in accordance with the Akwesasne Election Law section 14.(2). Appeals will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018. The Akwesasne Election Appeal Board will respond to any appeals within 2 weeks. The date will be announced in a later notice.
