On the evening of Friday, March 17th, 2023, members of the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) conducted various RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs throughout the City of Cornwall to promote safe driving practices and remove impaired drivers from the roadways.
As a result of Friday’s RIDE program, approximately 300 motor vehicles were stopped. Of those vehicles, one novice driver had its driver’s licence suspended for 3 days for having the presence of a drug. Another driver had its driver’s licence suspended for 3 days for being in the warn range for alcohol.
One driver was arrested and charged for impaired operation and operation with 80 mg or more. That driver also received a 7-day vehicle impoundment and a 90-day driver’s licence suspension.
Additionally, there were 5 Provincial Offence Tickets issued.
RIDE programs are designed to safeguard the public, to educate about the seriousness of the offence, and to catch impaired drivers. Please assist us in our efforts by not getting behind the wheel if you have been drinking or consuming drugs. Consider using a designated driver or using public transportation or a taxi. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, call 9-1-1.
The CPS remains committed to enhancing traffic safety in the City of Cornwall.
