The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to ensuring Canadians never forget. We remember Canadian Veterans from all conflicts, as well as those who have made sacrifices on the home-front. Our mission is to ensure Canada never forgets the sacrifices of our Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, Peace Officers, Merchant Navy, and Reserves. We also remember our military families— the mothers, fathers, sons and daughters of Canadian Veterans. Branch 297 is committed to remembering the sacrifices made. The Royal Canadian Legin Branch 297, Cornwall have planned several acts of Thanks and Remembrance between October 26th to November 11, 2023.
October 26, 2023 at 10:00 at the Courtyard beside Cornwall City Hall, will be the official flag raising ceremony and pinning of the first Poppy in Cornwall on Mayor Towndale by our Branch President Marvin Plumadore. This ceremony is to draw awareness to the start of the National Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign and Veterans Week, with the Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11th. The public is invited to attend.
Friday October 27th, is the official Launch day for the Poppy Campaign. The poppies will be delivered to the various businesses and organizations throughout the city. Branch 297 Poppy Chair, Mavis Williamson states,” The Poppys are not for sale, but a donation is appreciated to provide funds for services for our Veterans. “ This past year we had several activities such as the Veterans Dinner, which is held at Branch 297. We have provided comfort items as needed and services for Veterans. We had a day trip to the Canada War Museum, plus donations to organizations utilized by our Veterans and youth.” Williamson is positive this year the two 2 week Poppy Campaign we will receive the kind support as shown in the past. Branch 297 President Marvin Plumadore, is confident Cornwall residents will show their act of Remembrance by wearing a Poppy, we are all very proud and appreciative of the service given by our veterans.
Veterans Week is November 5 to November 11th, To launch this week, there
will be Veterans Dinner will be held on Monday, November 6. This is our way of saying Thank You to our veterans and the event is by reservation. There are currently over 100 registered.
November 11, 2023, Remembrance Day. There will be a Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony coordinated by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 297 Cornwall. The parade will start at 10:35 from the Legion proceed to the Legion Memorial Park. The service will start at 10:45 to respect the 2 minute silence at 11:00, followed by the laying of wreaths. There will be a light lunch served at the Legion after the ceremony. If someone is interested in purchasing a wreath, please contact the Legion at 613.933.2362.
