AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is pleased to announce that an Emergency Food Distribution will be held for Akwesasne families on Thursday, Ohiarí:ha/June 30, 2022. Working together for the health and wellbeing of the community, Tribal volunteers will distribute frozen meats and COVID-19 Home Test Kits for 1,000 Akwesasne households beginning at 10:00 a.m. until all is gone. The food distribution will take place at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 and is made possible through assistance provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
There will be no boxes or bags, so individuals are asked to bring containers or coolers for placing frozen items into your vehicle’s trunk. Individuals are also asked to please adhere to the following requirements:
- Food giveaway for Akwesasne residents only;
- Bring tribal membership card or other form of identification;
- All traffic must use the main entrance at traffic light;
- Do not block fire department entrance;
- Remain in vehicle at all times; and
- Your patience is appreciated.
To pick up the frozen food items, please enter the IGA parking lot at the light for registration. After approved, proceed around the parking lot’s perimeter to the main distribution area in front of the building’s entrance. Signage will be available for directions.
Do not exit your vehicle at any time, as volunteers will load the frozen food items into your vehicle. When completed, please exit the parking lot at the light.
