ARSON
Cornwall, ON – Five youths from Cornwall were arrested on April 22, 2024, and charged with arson – damage to property. The following individuals, who cannot be named as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were each charged:
- A 13-year-old female
- A 13-year-old male
- A 14-year-old male
- A 15-year-old female
- A 15-year-old male
On April 22, 2024, police attended the Cornwall Aquatic Centre to investigate an unwanted person complaint. Subsequently, police observed a fire at a nearby baseball field and as members of the CPS approached the area, five youths were observed fleeing the scene.The investigation continued and the five youths were all located. They were each taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date.
UTTERING THREATS
Cornwall, ON – Cody Lacelle, 31, of Cornwall, was arrested on April 22, 2024, and charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged on Jan. 16, 2024, the man made threats to kill another individual. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On April 22, 2024, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 30, 2024.
UTTERING THREATS, POSSESSION OF WEAPON FOR DANGEROUS PURPOSE
Cornwall, ON – A 23-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on April 22, 2024, and charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – domestic and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. It is alleged on April 22, 2024, the woman made threats to her boyfriend and also brandished an edged weapon. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The woman was located, taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 14, 2024. Her name was not released to protect the identity of the victim.
WARRANT
Cornwall, ON – Aronhientha Benedict-Oakes, 27, of Akwesasne, was arrested on April 22, 2024, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. It is alleged on April 18, 2024, the man was scheduled to attend court and failed to do so. A warrant was issued for his arrest. On April 22, 2024, the man was taken into custody by members of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and subsequently turned over to the CPS. The warrant was executed and he was released to appear in court on May 21, 2024.
POSSESSION OF FIREARM CONTRARY TO PROHIBITION ORDER, FAIL TO COMPLY, MISCHIEF, DOMESTIC ASSAULT, POSSESSION OF SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE
Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on April 22, 2024, and charged with the following:
- Six counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Two counts of fail to comply with sentence order
- Four counts of fail to comply with probation order
- Mischief – destroys or damages property
- Domestic assault
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
It is alleged on April 22, 2024, the man was bound by six separate prohibition orders with the relevant condition to not possess any firearm. It is also alleged on this date, the man was bound by a Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) sentence order with the relevantconditions to not possess any weapons and to not possess any unlawful drugs or substances. Furthermore, it is alleged on this date, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, to not possess any weapons and to not possess intoxicating substances. Finally, it is alleged on this date, the man was bound by a separate probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged on April 22, 2024, the man damaged property at his girlfriend’s residence and assaulted her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The man was located and the investigation revealed he was allegedly in possession of a weapon and drugs. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per the provisions of the YCJA in addition to protecting the identity of the victim.
WARRANT
Cornwall, ON – Christopher Leblanc, 31, of Cornwall, was arrested on April 23, 2024, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. It is alleged on April 17, 2024, the man was scheduled to attend police headquarters for fingerprints and failed to do so. It is also alleged on April 18, 2024, the man was scheduled to attend court and failed to do so. A warrant was issued for his arrest. On April 23, 2024, the man was located and the warrant was executed. He was released to appear in court on June 4, 2024.
