Cornwall, Ontario – On April 2nd, a flag was raised at Cornwall City Hall in honour of World Autism Acceptance Day, a global initiative that emphasizes awareness, inclusion, and understanding of autism. Rachel Roy, family support navigator at Autism Canada, emphasized the shift from awareness to acceptance, stating, “For years, we were trying to create awareness. The awareness is there, so now it’s time to create acceptance.”
Kalem Payment, an 18-year-old Autism Ambassador from Cornwall, expressed his support for the event, saying, “I’m here for autism awareness and to help raise the flag.” Kalem also shared some of his skills. ” I have talents including bowling and building Legos and playing the piano.”
Autism Canada is a national organization dedicated to advocating for individuals on the autism spectrum across Canada. The event underscored the value of individuals on the autism spectrum and the importance of education and acceptance in fostering an inclusive society.
