Yesterday our local Tim Hortons franchisees, Darryn McPhail and Nelson Matos, got together at the 1233 Brookdale Avenue location to celebrate the launch of this year’s Smile Cookie campaign. Running from September 19th to the 25th, 100% of the proceeds raised in Cornwall will be going to our local Boys & Girls Club.
Like previous years, volunteers decorating cookies are at the heart of this fundraising campaign, allowing our local Tim Hortons to sell as many cookies as possible to benefit the community.
“We’ve reached out to the community in the last couple of years to help with the decorating, and the community has really enjoyed the opportunity,” explained BGC Executive Director, Jacquie Richards, “Some do it as team building exercises or with family members. Its something they can do to give back and have a fun time doing it.”
Last year, volunteers provided approximately 500 hours of support throughout the length of the campaign. Over 73,000 cookies were sold in 2021, something that would not have been possible without the help of our community.
“It’s more than just a cookie, it’s the impact of the cookie. The impact of the smile cookie is that it helps several youths in our community,” added Richards, “This year, the support is going to mental health training and programs for our youth in the BGC program. That’s really because we’ve seen an increase in the need for support in that area. So, we talk about cookies but its about a lot more than that.”
Don’t forget to stop in and get your Smile Cookies this week to support a great cause!
