Victor Dawkes
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our father, Victor Samuel Cecil Dawkes at Woodland Villa Long Sault, on April 11, 2020, surrounded by family, physically and virtually, due to the current pandemic restrictions. Our dad, a devout Catholic, passed away on Easter Saturday, and we know will be joyfully sharing forever in Christ’s resurrection today and forever!
Victor was born June 7, 1934 in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Québec to Mary Dawkes (Hetherington) and Victor Benjamin Dawkes who have predeceased him.
He will be missed by his wife of over 60 years, Monique Dawkes (nee Ménard); his son, Victor Armand Dawkes Jr (Dr Andrea Hannan Dawkes) of South Carolina ; his daughter, Helen Nicole Dawkes-Brown (James Brown) of Long Sault and the loves of his life, grandchildren-Emilie Lynn Brown, Michelle Victoria Brown, Rachel Hannan and Alexandra Hannan.
He also leaves two sisters, Joyce Dawkes and Susie (Hazel) Dawkes, as well as his nieces and nephews. Our father was pre-deceased by his brother, John (Jack) Dawkes.
Victor was an accountant who worked in Montreal for Arborite, Expo 67 and Place Bonaventure, from where he retired.
Victor’s whole life was spent in service to his church at St Pius X Parish, Long Sault and Our Lady of Grace Parish, Ingleside as well at St Peters church in Cornwall. He also served in his community as Treasurer for the Friendly Circle Seniors’ Group and the Friends of the Library, Long Sault, was a choir member with the Hills Angels, and canvasser for the Heart and Stroke as well as Diabetes Associations.
Our dad was loving cared for by the nurses, personal support workers and housekeeping staff at Woodland villa. They loved him and treated him like family.
His family is deeply indebted to Dr. Mary Smar who cared for our dad with such compassion and love for 25 years.
A celebration of Victor’s life will take place at a future announced date once the current public gathering restrictions are lifted. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Brownlee Funeral Homes, Ingleside. Online condolences may be made at www.brownleefuneralhomes.com
