Jim (Tjebbe) Vandermeer
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim (Tjebbe) Vandermeer on January 27th, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home, in his wife’s arms, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born in Vitwellingerga, Netherlands on October 20th, 1931. He came to Canada in 1953, then met and married Kay in 1959. Together they settled in Long Sault. Jim started his own successful business, Vandermeer Steering Service. He had a zest for life and enjoyed flying. Jim is survived by his loving wife Kay (Klaske), his children Michael (Karen), Mark, Melody (Grant) Letford, Joy (Juergen) Zaczyk. Jim is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Tayler (Samantha), Meghan (Duncan), Kristin, Colin, Michelle, Dylan, Jack, Ellie, Lexie, Tarah and Katie and by his great grandchildren Adrie, Vincent, Layla, Iris, Evie, Olive and Indie. Also survived by his beloved sister Evelyn Branje, sister-in-law Bonnie (Jim) Bailey, sister-in-law Susie DeBoer and many nieces and nephews, as well as family members in Holland. He was predeceased by his parents, Wietze and Tjiske Vandermeer, stillborn son Mitchell, son Victor and great-granddaughter Violet. Special thanks to Jackie McKenna for her help, love and care. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street (613-938-3888) from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church (corner of York St. and Third St.).
