Jean Gervais
Jean Gervais passed away peacefully on June 9th after a long battle with AML Leukemia. She was the firstborn of the late Garnet and Theresa Lazette, and sister to Bain (predeceased) (Rachel), Mary Kennedy (Robert), Neil, Alvin (Frances), Karl (Theresa) and Mark (Denise). In 1964 Jean married Roger Gervais. She was mother to Michel, Lisa and Julie Gervais, mother-in-law to Stephanie Gervais (Kramer) and grandma to Sophia and Gabrielle Gervais. Jean was a devoted, caring, understanding and supportive wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma and family was always a central part of her life. She attended St. Michael’s Academy in Cornwall and then went to teacher’s college in Ottawa. Jean’s love of learning, friendly personality, patience and love of children suited her chosen profession as a teacher. She taught primary grades in Ottawa for three years, then at many schools in Cornwall and the surrounding area over her long career. In addition, she owned and operated Jean’s Daycare Center for many years in Cornwall. Jean shared her passions of yard saling, collecting, metal detecting, reading, gardening, euchre playing, travelling and genealogy with many friends she met along the way in her life. She had a rare gift of easily connecting with others through conversation. She touched many lives, had a zest for life, and will be missed by all who knew her. Jean was a long standing member of the Catholic Women’s League, had served as President, and had volunteered countless hours with the CWL. At Jean’s request, there will be no visitation. A mass will be held in honour of Jean at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Thursday, June 15th at 11:00am. All are invited to attend and celebrate Jean’s life. It will also be available through Father Kevin Maloney’s Facebook live stream. It was Jean’s wishes that, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada on her behalf.
