George Wylie
19 APRIL, 1936 – 11 APRIL, 2024s
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Wylie. He was born in Perth Scotland on April 19th, 1936, to parents George and Sophia Wylie. He was raised with strong Scottish values and a good work ethic. George passed away peacefully in Cornwall, Ontario on April 11th, 2024 surrounded by those who loved him.
George was a proud Scotsman serving in the Black Watch. As a child, George dreamed of being a professional ice hockey player. He loved the game and reminiscing about the good ole days, the teams he played with and the places they travelled. He was a bit of a travelling man and eventually moved to Canada with his young family in 1974. He worked at Long Sault Fabrics upon arriving and eventually found a career working at the Cornwall General Hospital until he retired in 1996. George spent his retirement involving himself in hockey and soccer in whatever capacity he could, whether it be playing or coaching. He never missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game and thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his great grandsons at their hockey games. He often stopped by his granddaughter’s home daycare, where he loved singing, reading and taking the kids on walks. They knew him as “great grandpa” and looked forward to his visits.
George is survived by his children; Shirley Ferguson (George), Scott Wylie (Hillary), Ross Wylie (Alison), and Grant Wylie (Beth). He will forever be remembered by his sister, Norma and her family; James, Zoe, Sophia, Georgia and Jessica. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren; Melissa Hickman (Andrew), Travis Ferguson (Lizzie), Nicole and Alex Wylie, Brennan and Victoria Wylie. His great grandsons, Ethan and Elliot Hickman will miss his hockey wisdom, and afternoon games of pool.
The family is forever grateful to Melissa for taking such great care of her grandfather is his final years.
