Effie Wintrup
On Friday, January 31, 2020 Mrs. Effie Wintrup passed away peacefully in her sleep at Peace Arch Hospital. Effie is survived by her husband Larry, and their three boys Douglas (Corina), Andrew (Jacquie), Steven, sister Nan Turner grandchildren Samantha, Natalie (Nick) Kottick and great grandchildren Asher and Alessi.
Mom was a traveller at heart and at an early age left home in Cornwall, Ontario and moved to France to teach English at a Canadian Air Force base. While in France she fell in love with a man from Winnipeg who just happened to be wearing a uniform and a pilot.
Effie’s children were born in different places. Douglas was born in Bistroff, Moselle, France, Andrew in Trenton Ontario and Steven in Richmond BC.
Moms hobbies were varied from being a prolific reader, dog walker and painter in her retirement years.
It became clear to us that when our dogs vacationed at grammas house they always came home 10 pounds heavier. It turned out, much to our surprise, that the dogs were fed an extraordinary amound of cookies. This led to the nickname Grammies Cookie Shack.
She enjoyed her time with the grandchildren. With a smile on her face she enjoyed watching Asher run around with his red car and the smile on little Alessi’s face.
She may have been short in stature but with her voice she could stop ALL Wintrup boys in their tracks. As an avid reader she enjoyed all types of books and enjoyed spending time at the cabin and winters at their home in Arizona.Your humour and smile
will be missed.
Rest In Peace…Mom.
