Brent Nixon
Lyall Lynden (Brent) Nixon peacefully at Hospice Cornwall on March 25, 2024, at the age of 68. Loving and caring husband of Brigitta Nixon (van Diepen). Proud father of his devoted daughters Missy Buchan (Rory) and Mandy Nixon-Brown. “Gampy” to his grand-daughters Ava, Lily, and Hadley Buchan, and Norah and Paisley Brown. Remembered by in-laws Bob and Els Cordell, and Jos and Sharon van Diepen.
Brent, the only child of Lyal & Mavis Nixon (Beckstead) was born in the lost village of Dickinson’s Landing and moved to Cornwall following the flooding of the Seaway. From a young age, he enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence River and eventually established a home on its banks.
Losing his Dad at the young age of 19, allowed him the opportunity to fulfill his dream of being self-employed as he developed his Dad’s part-time landscaping business into a full-time excavation company which included taxi ownership and property rentals. As an antique enthusiast, Brent prided himself in the restoration and collection of vintage gas pumps, gas and oil memorabilia and automobiles. A former member of Big Brothers, Brent maintained a lifelong friendship with “little brother” Brian Kennedy of Cornwall. Friends were always a special part of Brent’s life and for that he was so grateful.
Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, Ontario (613-938-3888), on Monday April 1st from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, Tuesday 9-10:30 am. The funeral will take place at 11 am at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Cornwall.
If desired, donations to the Cornwall branch of the SPCA, Cornwall Hospice or the Lost Villages Historical Society would be appreciated by the family.
