Allan James MacDonald
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Allan James MacDonald, who left us at the age of 70 on August 30th, 2024. We take comfort in knowing that God welcomed Allan into His loving arms while he was tending to his favorite place, his garden. Surrounded by flowers in full bloom and bathed in sunshine, Allan peacefully took his last breath.
Allan was the cherished husband of Joanne MacDonald for 47 wonderful years and a devoted father to his children, Jared (Jennifer) and Jenna (Jim). He adored his grandchildren, Rory-Dawn and Lorne, who inherited his creative spirit, love for art, gardening, and his delightful sense of humor. Allan’s infectious laugh, warm smile, and clever frugality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Allan and Joanne built a successful hair styling business in Moose Creek, where they worked for 24 years while raising their family. In preparation for retirement, they moved to Cornwall to be closer to loved ones. Allan continued working part-time in his trade until he fully retired at age 65. His creative talents extended beyond his profession, encompassing singing, dancing, painting local country scenes, and traveling. Allan’s journeys took him to Mexico and back to his MacDonald roots in Scotland. Yet, his greatest passion remained his gardens, both floral and vegetable.
Born to Lily Jean (Shaver) and Vincent Felix MacDonald of St. Andrew’s West, Allan was raised on a dairy farm on McClave Road survived by sisters-in-law Mary and Sherry, Vincent,(Mieke),Garry, Heather (Marcel), Bonnie (Malcolm), Kevin, Dianne (Edward), and predeceased by his parents, Lily and Vincent F., his brothers Donald and Gerald, his sister Catherine, and his father-in-law Donald R.
He was a beloved son-in-law to Audrey J. MacDonald (Donald) and a dear brother-in-law to Don (Ann Marie), Peter (Heather), Lorraine (Peter), Alastair (Mario), and Jennifer (Richard). Allan was also cherished by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Allan’s legacy of love, creativity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by love and beauty he so cherished in life.
The family will be in attendance at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Home West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482) on Friday September 13, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday September 14, 2024 in St. Andrew’s Church at 11 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca
