CORNWALL, Ontario – For the seventh year in a row, Zumba carollers will be hitting the streets between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14 to raise funds for Big Brother Big Sisters of Cornwall and District.

Organized by Christal Bowen of Zumba with Christal, about 40 to 50 volunteers will be dancing to holiday tunes through neighbourhoods close to Blessed Sacrament Parish this year. Bowen said that her family who lives in the area will have a warm-up, hot chocolate station for anyone who drops by. Each house that will be visited by the dancers has been given an informative door-knocker pamphlet and a mint by Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“We basically take our Zumba party to the street,” said Bowen. “The Zumba party is big energy, lots of fun and it gets everyone in the Christmas spirit.”

“Pay us to stay or pay us to leave, either way your donation goes to a great cause: Big Brothers and Big Sisters,” she added.

Bowen explained that her mother-in-law and father-in-law are involved with the non-profit as ‘Bigs’, as well as her wife.

“Its just always been a big part of our family to support it. I think they stand for such an incredible opportunity for kids who don’t have a chance. To me, if you can put a smile on a kid’s face, that’s what it’s all about,” said Bowen.

To get involved or take part in the carolling, contact Zumba with Christal on Facebook, Christal Bowen on her personal Facebook page, or Big Brothers and Sisters.

Bowen said that in the past residents of the city have sought out the group of Zumba dancers to donate, even if they aren’t dancing through their neighbourhood. Bowen invites anyone who wants to participate.

“We won’t be hard to find in the area of Blessed Scarament,” she said.
