In the seventh show of their 2023/24 concert series, the St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage is bringng in multi-award winning singer songwriter Julian Taylor with Mia Kelly opening the show.  The show is on Saturday April 13th at 7 pm at Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse.

Julian Taylor  has enjoyed a decades-long career and has built an unimpeachable reputation as a truly independent artist with over a dozen EP and CD releases in numerous incarnations: as the leader of the band Staggered Crossings, as the Julian Taylor Band and most recently as a solo artist.

Julian’s career has sped up rather than slowed down over the years, with some of his most recent releases attracting the most attention. With his 2020 release The Ridge and then 2022’s Beyond the Reservoir, Julian found a whole new audience that fell in love with him and his music. That music also received a raft of nominations and awards, including Juno nominations, a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Country Music Association of Ontario nomination, a Polaris Music Prize nomination, International Acoustic Music Awards and  five Native American Music Award nominations to name just some of the accolades.

Julian’s music finds the perfect balance between sparse and complex, along with the thoughtful directness of his words, which are sung in his distinctive warm and trustworthy voice. As Wayne Arthurson of Canadian Beats says:  “Julian Taylor’s music is a beacon of hope in troubled times. His lyrics are thoughtful and inspiring, and his voice is both powerful and tender. This is music that will lift your spirits.”

St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage regulars may remember  Mia Kelly, who appeared in an early 2020 Intimate Acoustics lineup. She’s a powerhouse performer in her own right who hails from Gatineau and writes and sings in both French and English and blends folk, rock and blues in her expertly crafted songs. Since the last time Mia played on the St. Lawrence Stage, she’s been very busy: she released her first full-length album Garden Through the War in 2022 which was nominated for Album of The Year at the Folk Music Awards 2023, she was a finalist at the 2023 Jeux De La Francophonie in Kinshasha, she was awarded Emerging Artist of the Year by Culture Outaouais, and is nominated this year for two Canadian Folk Music Awards.

St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage President and Artistic Director Sandra Whitworth says: “Both Mia and Julian each have large fan followings  – we recommend our audience doesn’t wait too long before grabbing tickets for this show – it’s not to be missed!”

Tickets are $25 in advance, available on the St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage website: https://www.st-lawrencestage.com/shows.html If any tickets remain, they will be available for $30 at the door the evening of the performance, Saturday April 13th at Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse. Show time is 7 pm and doors open no later than 6.30 pm.
