CORNWALL, Ontario – About a hundred participants dressed up in Christmas spirit to shuffle through Lamoureux Park for a good cause.

The 2018 Santa Shuffle in support of the Cornwall Salvation Army took place on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

Organizer Julie Leroux of the Salvation Army said that she hoped to see $1,500 raised at the event that day, all of which would be used to support those in need in the Cornwall area.

The Santa Shuffle is one of three big fundraisers that the Salvation Army relies on during their Christmas appeal, the others being their Carol and Brass fundraiser and the Christmas Kettles, which are currently out around town, in grocery stores until Dec. 24.

The Salvation Army soup kitchet alone serves around 600 local families.

“The numbers have easily doubled since last year,” said Leroux. |”It is that time of year where everything is that much tighter. What we can do with the food bank is to help families stretch that dollar a little bit more.”

The Santa Shuffle had two courses, one 1km route and another that was 5km. This was the fifth year that the Salvation Army held the Santa Shuffle in Cornwall.
