CORNWALL, Ontario – On Friday, Jim McDonell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry was at Theatre Aultsville in Cornwall for an echo announcement that the group received support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).  The funding will go towards Aultsville Theatre’s  theatrical lighting replacement project. As the project gets underway, the theatre organization is excited to replace the antiquated lighting fixtures with the new industry standard technology.

“Arts enrich a community and Cornwall is privileged to have the Aultsville Theatre and its facilities available to our many artists,” said Jim McDonell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.  “By investing in updating the lighting systems, the Ontario Trillium Foundation is helping ensure that the Aultsville Theatre will continue to attract great performances and the numerous audiences that have made it a consistent example of local artistic success. Well done, and I look forward to enjoying more performances in the updated theatre”

Upgrading the theatrical lighting has been on the theatre’s list of improvements for many years now as it has been precariously operating with original lighting fixtures that were well beyond their life’s expectancy. The theatre organization expects the new lighting equipment to be installed and in operation by mid-May.

“This is a significant improvement to the theatre.” says Janet Martel, theatre manager. “Our clients will now have access to state of the art equipment, and our technicians will not have to worry anymore about the stability of the equipment.” Aultsville Theatre has been serving the City of Cornwall and surrounding communities since 1976, hosting both touring and professional shows for the benefit of local audiences, and providing a fully-equipped performance venue for local arts and performance groups.  For more information on this project or Aultsville Theatre visit www.aultsvilletheatre.com or Janet Martel at 613-932-1661 ext. 221.

Aultsville Theatre is located on the campus of the St. Lawrence College, along the shores of the scenic St. Lawrence River. In operation since 1976, Aultsville Theatre is a professional-capacity, 658-seat community theatre that regularly hosts world class professional touring performances, superior amateur and local performance and community events. Audiences and performers alike enjoy excellent acoustics, sight lines, reception and ambiance. Aultsville Theatre is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that manages the theatre as a non-profit, charitable organization.

An agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations.  With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario Communities. www.otf.ca
