Janet Nguyen Henderson—Why Choose Cornwall?
Plenty of festivals and events

As the warmer weather is approaching, there’s plenty of festivals and events to watch out for. Here’s some notable ones I’d like to highlight for June. In my next month’s column, I’ll point out some that are coming up in July.

On Saturday, June 1st from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Unleash Pet Fest is hosting a Pet Parade so you can unleash your pet’s inner superhero and showcase their themed outfits as they parade down the streets of downtown Cornwall. This year, they’re proud to announce that proceeds will benefit Rico’s Refuge Cat Rescue and PawPortunity Rescue, local organizations dedicated to helping cats in need find their forever homes. For more information on this parade and other events they’re hosting, check out their website www.unleashpetfest.com

On June 7-9, 2024, join The SD&G Historical Society at the Cornwall Community Museum on 166 Water St E Canada as they celebrate the 240th anniversary of New Johnstown (Cornwall) and the Royal Townships today comprised of the Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, as well as the Counties of Leeds and Grenville. The celebration blends the past and present with a re-creation of this first 1784 community along with displays and presentations by present‐day heritage organizations – immersing visitors in all that our region has to offer. Visit their website 1784.cafor more information.

The Filipino Community in Cornwall and SD&G will host their second Philippine Independence Day celebration occurring on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. The celebration will take place at the Cornwall Bandshell at the Lamoreaux Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As June is being declared Philippine Heritage Month, it is a great time to remember the heroes who brought independence to the Philippines. There will be live performances from the Filipino community and everyone is welcome to experience the program which shares their culture and history by creating an engaging experience.

On Sunday, June 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Cornwall Road Warriors Car Club is having their second Annual Father’s Day Car Show at Lamoureux Park on 100 Water Street. It’s an event free for visitors and donations are accepted at their Car Club Table to support the Optimist Club of Cornwall. There will be trophies, door prizes, DJ, vendors, 50/50, and much more.

There’s also lots of events and activities at the Cornwall Public Library which are held on a regular basis, please check out their events page for more details www.library.cornwall.on.ca/events/upcoming
