CORNWALL, Ontario – Pizza lovers in Cornwall can rejoice – there’s another option coming to the menu next year.
Boston Pizza will open a new franchise in Cornwall in late winter or early spring on Brookdale Avenue in the same plaza that currently includes Shoppers Drug Mart and Bulk Barn.
Paul Toor, the owner of the new restaurant, said in an interview the restaurant could employ as many as 20 or 30 full-time staff, with a full roster of part-timers as well.
The restaurant will also be a so-called “2014 model” – which will include designs and amenities found at no other Boston Pizza restaurant in the country.
“It’s a brand new look,” he said.
Toor has owned the Boston Pizza franchise in Brockville for the last eight years and has been involved in negotiations to create a similar operation in Cornwall for some time.
He said there was talk of putting the restaurant at the base of the Seaway International Bridge on Brookdale Avenue, before plans had to be scrapped because the soil is contaminated.
Another option was to build in the new plaza on Brookdale Avenue near Tollgate Road, but Toor felt that area was too far removed from other amenities.
When developers of the Brookdale plaza near Thirteenth Street approached Toor about building on their land, he made a decision to move forward.
The new Boston Pizza restaurant will cover about 6,000 sq. ft. on the western part of the plaza. Toor, who is in the midst of negotiations with contractors, expects the facility to open in five or six months.
He said Job Zone in Cornwall is helping to fill positions at the restaurant.
