CORNWALL, Ontario – There’s a small community hosting a big event in North Glengarry this weekend.
The Alexandria & District Chamber of Commerce Trade Show begins this evening at 5 p.m. at the Glengarry Sports Palace, located at 170 McDonald Boulevard.
The event runs from May 2 to May 4 at the following times: Friday, 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Over 80 booths will showcase the Alexandria area’s business community, boasting a variety of services, ranging from landscaping, finances, and travel.
Visitors will have a chance to win $1,500 in Alexandria & District Chamber Dollars (sponsored by Caisse Populaire Desjardins de la Vallée), and a $500 Via Rail gift certificate.
Chamber vice-president Phil Cloutier says the trade show offers something for everyone, no matter their age, budget or taste.
“Visitors can learn a lot about the businesses in the area and find some good deals and new products,” said Cloutier, owner of 3-Tier Laser Engraving & Gallery.
The free event is open to the public and there’s plenty of parking available.
Cloutier said the trade show will have an impressive outdoor component and a fashion show hosted by Green Valley’s Viau’s Ladies Wear (on Sunday).
The trade show formerly ran on a bi-annual basis, but growth in Alexandria’s business community, and a strong demand from local consumers, have made it a yearly event.
“We’re (small business owners) all trying to revive the downtown core,” he said. “Alexandria has a wide variety of bilingual services with a small town feel. Come check us out.”
