A 32-year-old man from the Eganville area is facing numerous charges after a single-vehicle collision near Alexandria involving a stolen vehicle Saturday.
The arrest was made after an intensive police search.
Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded June 22, 2024, just before 1:00 p.m., to the collision on County Road 34 in the Fassifern area. The driver had fled on foot and a firearm was found in the car.
Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit joined SD&G officers in the search, which also included an OPP remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS). The search continued for the rest of the day but was scaled back when it appeared the male had left the area.
The accused was arrested June 23, after a resident south of Alexandria contacted police to report a suspicious person.
Charges laid against Natalino Petrini-Woolley, of North Algona Wilberforce, include obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, driving while under suspension, failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall June 24.
