After waging “The Battle of Glengarry” for about 50 seasons, the Alexandria Glens and Char-Lan Rebels “are burying the hatchet” to form The Glengarry Brigade, aiming to ice a winning team in the Eastern Ontario Junior B Hockey League beginning this fall.
“With the changing dynamic of the hockey landscape, these two great franchises see the need to evolve,” reads a statement from the teams’ directors in announcing the merger.
Playing in the Martin Division of the EOJHL, the Brigade will hold its inaugural pre-camp June 14 and 15 at the Benson Centre in Cornwall.
“This merger will ensure that the Glengarry region will continue to add to its rich junior hockey history,” said Marc Franche, EOJHL Commissioner.

Head coach will be Grant Cooper, who is coming off his first season as bench boss, leading the Rebels to the post-season in 2023-’24. He will also be general manager, assisted by Jeff Carter, Marc Sauvé and Pat Sauvé.
Associate coach will be Michaël Prégent, who was the Glens’ coach last season, when Alexandria competed for a playoff spot right until the final few games of the season.
Matt Grégoire will join the staff as an assistant coach.
Last season was his first behind the bench, serving as an assistant with the Rebels.
