Cornwall, Ontario – On the evening of March 22, the Ramada Inn in Cornwall was transformed into a nostalgic scene reminiscent of the golden age of Las Vegas. The Centre York Centre (CYC), a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and neutral setting for supervised family visits, hosted its inaugural Vintage Vegas Charity Casino Night. This glamorous event brought the community together for a night of entertainment, supporting a noble cause.
The event featured an array of attractions, including a variety of casino games, live music from the popular band Radio Nova, delicious hors d’oeuvres, signature cocktails, and a poker tournament with coveted prizes. Guests were encouraged to embrace the theme by dressing in vintage formal attire, adding to the authenticity of the Vegas-inspired experience.
Bill Halman, the treasurer of CYC’s Board of Directors, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Centre York Centre is such an important part of this community that so many people don’t know, and it’s one of the reasons we’re having this fun casino night, this vintage Vegas night. Of course, it’s a fundraiser, but we want to raise the profile of the Centre York Centre here in Cornwall, and of course, in Hawkesbury, there’s a location there as well.”
The primary goal of the fundraiser was to address the pressing need for additional resources to support the increasing number of families requiring CYC’s services. “The York Centre is facilitating families in need, specifically court-ordered visitation and pickups and drop-offs. If the court orders it, the Centre York Centre is here to help,” Halman explained. The funds raised from the event will go towards helping alleviate the backlog of families waiting for services in both Cornwall and Hawkesbury, enabling the center to extend its operating hours and hire additional staff.
Halman also highlighted the importance of establishing the Vintage Vegas Charity Casino Night as a recurring event, stating, “We really want to establish this event, and show people that we can have a great time and raise money for a great cause.”
